The governments of the Maldives and Japan have officially signed a historic Exchange of Notes to secure a substantial grant aid package totaling 152 million Japanese Yen, which is equivalent to approximately 1.02 million US Dollars.

This bilateral agreement ensures the vital continuation of the human resource development scholarship programme offered by the Japanese government to Maldivian students for the upcoming academic year.

Designed to foster deep academic collaboration and strengthen diplomatic ties between the two nations, this funding will fully support selected Maldivian civil servants in pursuing higher education opportunities, specifically Master’s and Doctoral degrees, at prestigious universities across Japan.

The grant covers comprehensive educational expenses, including academic tuition fees, monthly living stipends, airfare travel costs, and necessary research materials.

Through this initiative, recipients will gain invaluable expertise in critical fields such as public administration, environmental sustainability, economic development, and international relations.

Upon completing their advanced studies, these scholars will return home to apply their global insights directly to the public sector, thereby enhancing the institutional capacity of the Maldivian government and driving the country's socio-economic development forward.

This latest agreement underscores Japan's long-standing commitment as a key developmental partner to the Maldives, highlighting a shared vision for sustainable growth, public sector excellence, and cross-cultural empowerment through higher education.
